iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus Survive Water Immersion Test

We have already seen Apple’s new iPhone 6s Plus surviving a bend test. Now, a new YouTube video claiming that the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus can survive in water for over an hour has surfaced.

YouTuber Zach Straley has posted a video of around 8-minutes showing both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus put through rigorous waterproof tests. In the video, Straley is seen putting the handsets separately into bowls filled with water for over an hour. He however kept checking the devices at intervals of 30 minutes and 45 minutes to check whether the device was working properly. The video showed that both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus worked perfectly fine even after staying for over an hour in water.

In a follow-up video after 48 hours, Straley has shared an update for both the devices. In the second video, he points out that iPhone 6s screen is now showing up a horizontal line across the display on top. He adds that other than that there has been no functionality issue in both the new iPhones.

Considering that Apple has never promoted or even marketed waterproof features for iPhones, it is impressive that the new devices can withstand for a prolonged period without any functionality issues reported. Despite these findings, we strongly advise our readers not to expose their iPhone to water, as Apple warranty policy is unlikely to cover any damage that may occur as a result.

Comparing this to Sony, the Japanese company which has always promoted waterproof capabilities of its Xperia range. Recently however, Sony warned users that they shouldn’t use their Xperia devices (whether smartphone or tablet) underwater.

A new hidden feature in Apple’s latest iPhones has been discovered. Reported by Jeremy Horwitz of 9to5mac, the feature touted as “Peek Zoom” can be found in Settings > General > Accessibility > Zoom. The new feature is disabled by default and requires users to turn on Zoom as well as turn on Show Controller. When the zoom controller is pressed hard, the entire screen zooms-in and on releasing the pressure zooms-out.

“A setting called Zoom Region can restrict the zoomed-in area to a small, movable window if you prefer,” points out Horwitz. The new hidden feature could be useful for users with reduced vision as the feature helps zooming in and out of the screen as per user’s wish.

With Apple’s new iPhones hitting the stores, we have received our first set of leaks for the next year’s iPhones. According to a Weibo post (via Macotakara), the next iPhone will feature design changes, which is said to be departure from what we have seen in last two years. The post also claims that next year’s iPhone will sport waterproof and dustproof design. Another Weibo post has claimed that the next iPhone will feature a new casing material alongside sporting flat LCD screen.

The above leak should be taken with a pinch of salt as Apple has not mentioned anything about the upcoming device and the legitimacy of the leaks remains questionable.
