UMi Fair, the $99 fingerprint phone, will launch 25th September

UMi’s betting big on fingerprint technology being the next big thing on entry-level and mid-range phones. The UMi Fair is a result of that; the phone is expected to be strictly budget.

News is that the Fair will launch in exactly a week from now, i.e., on the 25th of September. The company recently released the specifications of the phone, and told the community that the UMi Fair would kill the Redmi line.

Tall claims indeed, but comparing the Fair to the Redmi Note would be like comparing apples to oranges. Because, if you will be buying the UMi Fair, it’ll mainly be for the fingerprint sensor. On the other hand, the Redmi is all about tight MIUI integration.

The UMi Fair has a 5-inch 1280 x 720p HD display, and is powered by the poster boy of all budget processors — the MediaTek MT6735. With that, there’s 2GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage, an 8 mega-pixel rear (Sony-made) camera, 2 mega-pixel front facing camera and a 2250mAh battery. That is of course, besides the fingerprint sensor and a CNC alloy frame, tow things UMi will market the Fair on.

Like we said earlier, UMi seem to have found a good price point for a fingerprint phone at just $99. However, a lot will depend on how well the parts are put together; and we’ll be able to see that only once the phone is in our hands.
