Evanesce, a new app by Brad Byrd, offers users a free photo and video sharing service that self-destructs messages after 15 seconds.
Similar in concept to the popular Snapchat app, Evanesce’ developers promise to add more features into the app as it grows in popularity.
As mentioned above, Evanesce is an app designed for anyone who wishes to send friends and family members photo or video messages that auto-delete themselves after 15 seconds.
However, unlike with Snapchat (a very popular app based on a similar concept), Evanesce’ official description states that any “objectionable content” should be reported to the app’s developers and will be dealt with according to the app’s terms of service.
This editorial censorship will likely appeal to users who are a bit weary of Snapchat’s more “open” terms of service and might find this statement of Evanesce’ purpose to be attractive.
Both photo and video content can be sent through this app, and users will enjoy a clean, simple interface when reviewing their inboxes or sending new content themselves.
Evanesce iPhone App
Overall, I found Evanesce a pleasantly simple to use app. While it is arguably not based on a very original concept, it still is a well-executed idea for an app.
Appearance and Layout:
Evanesce’s appearance and layout is clean, simple, quite refreshing, and makes using the app quick and easy.
Signing up for an account was incredibly simple as well, and doing so is not connected to Facebook or any other social media account.
Fonts are easy to read, and the calmingly colored backgrounds keep the app feeling cool and sleek.
Navigating through Evanesce is also wonderfully simple to do, and I found that I had no problem figuring out how to use the app once I had successfully created my account. Finally, searching for and adding friends was a smooth process as well.
Evanesce is currently available for free through the iTunes Store. This makes sense, since other apps similar to it are also typically available for free as well.
That said, it is a bit hard to say that Evanesce is better than these other more popular apps, and iOS users who already have active accounts on other such apps probably wouldn’t be interested in transferring to Evanesce.
Evanesce is a welcome change from similar apps and stands apart by providing a photo and video sharing environment free of “objectionable content”.
It’s definitely a solid service and a good fit for anyone who values a measure of control over the content being shared and can convince enough of his/her friends to join in the fun.
Evanesce requires iOS 8.0 or later. Compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. This app is optimized for iPhone 5, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. A small expedite fee was paid to speed up the publication of this review.
