Xiaomi Mi 4c will have an IR port (for security)

It is no longer a secret that Xiaomi plans to hit the intermediary market with a new device, which possibly comes in direct response to the unsatisfactory performance of the Mi4i. The new device — called Xiaomi Mi4c — was a target of leaks in the past weeks, with its design and even retail box leaked.

New reports indicate that the new device should come with a feature that we don’t see in phones for a quite long time, an infrared port.

If you don’t remember, infrared ports were quite the standard on many phones back in the day, with the good old Nokia 5700 being an example. The feature was mainly used to transfer files between two phones with the feature enabled. That would require some works to ensure that the ports of both phones was perfectly aligned in order to start the process; which however died with the arrival of Bluetooth.

We should ask, why is Xiaomi planing to bring back this type of technology in a new release? The answer is for security purposes, although still unclear how the company will implement the technology to achieve that. But in a time where security is a main concern while getting a device to carry out some of user’s personal info, if Xiaomi achieve to do something new and really secure it could work well in their favor.

According to rumors and leaks the Xiaomi Mi4c is a 5-inch 1080p device, powered by the six-core Snapdragon 808, with 2 or 3GB RAM options and 16 or 32GB of storage respectively. The phone also will come with a 13MP main camera and a 5MP front-facing shooter, packing Dual-Sim and 4G LTE capabilities, all running the MIUI V7 based in Android 5.1 Lollipop. The phone is reportedly to be powered by a 3080mAh battery.

As the Mi5 flagship rumors suggest the phone to implement a fingerprint scanner, and this one coming with the Infrared port for security, we can see a new move of Xiaomi to ensure a bigger level of security to the end user.

For now that’s everything but some more info or even leaks might emerge with the launch date getting closer. The Xiaomi Mi4c might be unveiled on September 22, and should be a tough new competitor in the mid-range department.
